Q: What is boudoir photography?
A: Boudoir photography is a type of photography that typically focuses on capturing intimate, sensual, and elegant images of an individual or couple. Boudoir photography is for anyone who wants to celebrate and showcase their body and sexuality, regardless of age, gender, or body type.
Q: Where is your studio?
A: Our studio is located in the Wycliff building in St Paul. The Swiss Army knife of studios—we’ve got backdrops galore, a bucket of corsets (yes, literally a bucket), more props than I’ll ever use, and all the lighting equipment imaginable to bring your ideas to life. But for the client that is looking for something a little different, we may head to an outdoor location or rent another studio to get exactly the look you’re going for.
Q: Do you know how to pose all body types?
A: Short answer, yes. Please refer to my portfolio and this post to determine if you agree!
Q: I’m nervous about doing a boudoir shoot, but I really want to do this. What should I do?
A: Feeling nervous for your first boudoir shoot is SO normal. The majority of my clients are nervous, but you cannot let those nerves hold you back. So many people tell me, ‘I wish I had done this sooner,’ or ‘I can’t believe it took me so long to book this,’ because they find out how fun and easy it actually is. Read more about pre-shoot nerves here.
Q: Are you inclusive of all gender identities?
A: This is an LGBTQ+ friendly business. My services are for those who wish to be posed in a feminine manner. Feminine boudoir posing is what I do; those who identify as male and present as masculine will be able to find other photographers who represent them better. I would be happy to refer you!
Q: What should I wear for a boudoir photoshoot?
A: We’ll go over outfits in great detail at your consultation. Want ideas now look here!
Q: What type of editing do you do?
A: My editing is natural and detailed. I always edit out skin blemishes, scratches, bruises, and flyaway hairs. Things like cellulite and scars I ask preference for. Please see the example photos below.
Q: How do I book you?
A: Please fill out this questionnaire to get the process started.
Q: Do you have someone to do my hair and makeup?
A: Every package I offer includes professional hair and makeup. I have extremely talented hair and makeup artists who are capable of creating anything from a red carpet-ready look to giving you the ‘just rolled out of bed’ appearance and everything in between.
Q: What’s the total cost?
A: The million-dollar question. Since every single shoot with Fine Grain Boudoir is custom, you deserve a custom answer! Please reach out to today to get a quote.
Q: Will my photos be private?
A: Yes! I ask permission to use my client’s photos on my website and social media. I take great care to ensure that your photos remain private and confidential.
Q: Do you do full nudity?
A: I would like to empower you to wear as much or as little as you want during your shoot. You don’t even need to decide in advance; the ball is in your court. You will not be pressured to wear (or not wear) anything.
Q: I need my photos for a specific date. When should I book?
A: The earlier, the better, but it depends on what you want to do with your images. When creating an album, 2 months is ideal, while digitals take about 1 week to edit following your ordering appointment. I am always as flexible as possible and will work with you to meet a deadline.
Q: Can my friend come with me to my shoot?
A: Absolutely! Bringing a friend to the shoot is always welcome. It’s great to have another hype woman in the room.
Q: Can I have the RAW, unedited images?
A: I do not offer packages that include access to download your raw images. Unedited photos are an unfinished product, and I only provide my clients with top-notch finished images. If your concern is about excessive editing, I can use a delicate touch while retouching if that is your preference.
